South Africa uses the international “A” paper sizes. Each size is exactly half of the one before it: fold an A0 sheet in half and you get A1, fold that and you get A2, and so on down to A6. Here’s a quick reference for every size, plus what each one is best for.

What each size is used for

  • A0 and A1: building and architectural plans, large posters, exhibition graphics and Correx signs.
  • A2: posters, menu boards, smaller plans, photo prints for framing and selfie frame boards.
  • A3: posters, certificates, presentation boards and spreadsheets that need room.
  • A4: letterheads, documents, brochures and reports.
  • A5: flyers, menus, notebooks and invitations.
  • A6: postcards, vouchers and small invitations.

Tips for printing large sizes

  1. Check your resolution. A photo that looks sharp on your phone may be blurry at A1. For posters, aim for at least 150 dpi at full size.
  2. Send a PDF at the exact final size, so nothing gets stretched.
  3. Scale plans correctly. Check that the scale on your drawing matches the paper size you’re printing.
