Putting your logo on uniforms, golf shirts, caps or event T-shirts is one of the best ways to look professional and get noticed. The big question is how: embroidery or printing? Both look great when they’re used in the right place. Here’s how to choose.
The short answer
- Choose embroidery for staff uniforms, golf shirts, caps, jackets and anything that must look premium and last for years.
- Choose printing for event and promotional T-shirts, large or very colourful designs, photos and big batches on a budget.
Embroidery: premium and long-lasting
Embroidery stitches your logo into the fabric with thread. It has a raised, textured look that feels high-end, and it survives hundreds of washes without fading or cracking.
Best for: corporate uniforms, golf shirts, caps, jackets, fleeces, aprons and bags.
Keep in mind: very fine detail, tiny text and photos don’t translate well into thread, and big designs cost more because they need more stitches.
What embroidery costs at our studio
| Item | Price |
|---|---|
| Logo digitising (once-off setup) | R300 |
| Standard chest logo | R60 per item |
| A5 size | R150 per item |
| A4 size | R220 per item |
Digitising turns your logo into a stitch file. You only pay for it once, and we keep the file for all your future orders. See embroidery digitising and embroidery application.
Printing: colourful and cost-effective
Printing applies ink or vinyl to the fabric. It can reproduce full-colour artwork, gradients and even photos, and there’s no setup fee like digitising, which makes it great value for one-off shirts and large designs.
Best for: event T-shirts, fun runs, school and church events, campaign shirts, large back prints and designs with many colours.
Keep in mind: prints can fade or crack over time if washed hot or tumble-dried, so follow the care instructions.
Side-by-side
| Embroidery | Printing | |
|---|---|---|
| Look | Raised, textured, premium | Flat, smooth, full colour |
| Durability | Excellent, lasts for years | Good, depends on care |
| Detail and photos | Limited | Excellent |
| Setup cost | Once-off digitising | None |
| Best garments | Golf shirts, caps, jackets | T-shirts, hoodies, sportswear |
Can I use both?
Yes. A popular combination is an embroidered chest logo on the front for a smart look, with a large printed design on the back for visibility at events.
